Ramsgate · East Cliff · West Cliff · Isle of Thanet · CT11–CT12
Cutting, reduction, removal and planting across Ramsgate, the East and West Cliff, and the Isle of Thanet villages. Fully insured. We plan around the bird-nesting window (1 March – 31 August). Ramsgate CA six-week notice handled for you.
What we do
Specified for the thin chalk-and-Thanet-Sand soils under most Ramsgate gardens, the salt spray that hits the cliffs on an easterly, and the single Ramsgate Conservation Area that covers most of the town centre and cliffs.
Annual or twice-yearly cuts on privet, yew, hornbeam, Griselinia, Elaeagnus and laurel. Clean lines, all arisings cleared, no power tools after 6pm out of respect for neighbours.
See pricing & timingOvergrown hedges brought back into proportion. Includes staged leylandii work on the exposed cliff-top plots where a one-shot cut into brown wood would kill the plant.
How we reduce safelyFull removal with grinder access, root-ball lift where the plant is worth saving, and reinstatement of the shallow chalk-over-Thanet-Sand soil. CA tree-check first.
What removal involvesSalt-tolerant species for cliff-top and seafront plots, chalk-happy choices for inland gardens, and an honest steer away from box (after the blight and the caterpillar) and Leylandii.

Why local matters
Most of Ramsgate sits on Upper Chalk overlain with the Thanet Formation — pale glauconitic sands over the chalk basement, thin alkaline topsoil, drought-prone in summer, low water retention year-round. The seafront and both cliffs get direct salt spray on an easterly. Behind the Regency terrace it's a different game entirely: sheltered walled gardens where the species palette opens right up.
We work to that variation, not against it. Elaeagnus and Griselinia on the exposed cliff-top plots. Yew and Ilex crenata in the sheltered walled gardens. Native mix on the Pegwell and Sandwich flanks. And a tape measure on any stem near the 75mm conservation-area threshold before we touch it.
In the Ramsgate CA?
The Ramsgate Conservation Area is a single large designation covering the Promenade, Harbour, town centre, East Cliff up to Winterstoke Gardens and the West Cliff. Article 4 Directions apply. Any tree with a stem over 75mm at chest height needs six weeks' written notice to Thanet DC before pruning. We file the section 211 notice on your behalf, included in every quote.
