What's included
- Top, sides and front face cut to your chosen height and width
- All arisings cleared from site and disposed of properly (we carry an EA upper-tier waste-carrier registration)
- Brush-down of the path, drive or Regency-terrace pavement underneath
- Six-week section-211 notice filed on your behalf if you're in the Ramsgate CA and the hedge has any stems over 75mm at chest height
- Fixed price quoted in advance — no day-rate creep
Pricing
Most routine cuts in Ramsgate fall in the £120 – £400 range depending on hedge length, height, and how much access we need. We give a fixed price after seeing photos and the postcode — no surprises on the day, no charge if the quote isn't accepted.
Timing by species
The best window depends on what you're growing — and, on a Ramsgate seafront, whether you're on the exposed line or set back.
- Griselinia, Elaeagnus, Euonymus, Olearia, Pittosporum — the coastal palette. Cut late spring after the flush hardens and again in early autumn if it's had a good growing year. Never right before an easterly gale window if we can help it.
- Privet, Leylandii, thuja — fast-growing, often needs two cuts a year (late spring and late summer).
- Beech, hornbeam — single late-summer cut. Hornbeam is the safer bet on Thanet's shallow chalk-over-Thanet-Sand soils; beech scorches inland in a dry August.
- Yew — single late-August cut; yew is happy with a hard clip once a year and resentful of more.
- Holly, laurel — late summer; both bruise easily, so we prefer secateurs and loppers on visible faces over a hedge trimmer where time allows.
- Native mixed (hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel, sea buckthorn) — winter only (September to February) to comply with nesting law.
- Tamarix — spring-flowering forms (T. tetrandra, T. parviflora) after flowering in June; summer-flowering T. ramosissima late winter to early spring on current-year wood.
What we don't do on cutting jobs
If a hedge needs more than a routine cut — it's overgrown, gappy, leaning after a winter of easterlies, or has outgrown the position — that's a reduction job, not a cut. We'll tell you that at quote stage rather than do a botched cut and pretend it solved the problem.
