Ramsgate — the town and the cliffs
Most of central Ramsgate sits inside a single large Conservation Area covering the Promenade, Harbour, town centre, East Cliff (as far as Winterstoke Gardens) and West Cliff. Work on any tree over 75mm at chest height needs six weeks' notice, which we file on your behalf. Soil is thin and alkaline — Upper Chalk with the Thanet Formation sand overlay — drought-prone in summer.
- West Cliff — Regency villas with walled gardens behind, exposed frontages taking direct easterlies. Griselinia and Elaeagnus dominate the exposed lines; box and yew survive off the wall footing.
- East Cliff and King George VI Park boundaries — clifftop plots with the full salt-spray load; mature Leylandii screens now hitting reduction age.
- Central Harbour and Promenade — small courtyard gardens, Article 4 restrictions, mixed Elaeagnus and Euonymus.
- Nethercourt — inland, sheltered, deeper topsoil. Standard suburban privet, laurel and Leylandii.
- Newington — 1970s estate plus older cottages. Mostly Leylandii reductions at this point.
The Thanet villages
- Broadstairs — cliff-top Regency and Victorian; salt-scorch on the seaward frontages, sheltered clip-hedges on the town-side gardens.
- St Peter's — inland Thanet village, deeper soils, larger plots; native mixed and beech-hornbeam screens.
- Cliftonville — Margate-adjacent, mixed Victorian-Edwardian; increasingly Elaeagnus and Euonymus on the seaward lines as legacy privet gives way.
- Minster-in-Thanet — village core with a Conservation Area; older thatched cottages, native mixed hedges, some TPO'd churchyard yews.
- Pegwell — right on Pegwell Bay NNR. Wildlife-value hedgerow work; hawthorn and sea buckthorn on the seaward edges; migration season windows to work around.
- Sandwich — over the district line in Dover DC. Medieval walled town, extensive Conservation Area, box (where it survives), yew and hornbeam. Different council paperwork — we handle the route.
We also serve Margate, Manston, Monkton and Sarre on request. Longer round-trip so we tend to bundle these with nearby Ramsgate jobs.
Not sure if we cover your postcode?
Our standard round runs about 12km from Ramsgate town centre. If you're inside CT11 or CT12 we cover you as a matter of course. CT13 (Sandwich and surrounding villages) is standard too. CT9 (central Margate) we take on when we can bundle it with a Cliftonville or Broadstairs job. Beyond that, ask — we may know someone closer.
