Tree services · Crown raising
Crown raising (also called crown elevation) removes the lower branches of a tree to give clearance underneath. Pedestrians can walk under it, vehicles can pass, the building next to it stops taking scrapes on the render, or the sightline down toward the Royal Harbour opens up. Done right, the tree above still looks like a tree, not a bare-legged lollipop that a coastal gale will fell.
A rule of thumb: after raising, the live crown should still be at least two-thirds of the total tree height. Take too much off the bottom and the tree looks bare-legged; it's also mechanically weaker in a wind because the bending load on the remaining branches has increased, a live concern on any Ramsgate cliff-top or seafront plot. If the maths says the tree needs to lose more than a third of its live crown for the clearance you want, a raise is the wrong tool, you probably need a reduction, a fell, or to change the target height.
Single-tree crown raise in Ramsgate typically runs £220 – £600. Roadside or over-driveway work sometimes needs a small MEWP (cherry-picker) hire for one day and coning of the road, which adds cost; we call this out on the quote rather than absorb it into a vague day rate. Harbour-side terrace jobs with no vehicle turnaround are handled by climb-and-bag, again quoted specifically.
Same as all our tree work, Ramsgate Conservation Area and TPO check first with Thanet District Council. If the raise takes the crown lower than it was measured at when the TPO was made, that changes the paperwork window. We do that check as part of the quote.
